The Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University was founded in 1872 with its landscape designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. It is a public park and research institution designated as a National Historic Landmark. It lies in a 265 acre area with a living collection considered to be the most comprehensive in the world. The living collection comprises of about 1.3 million specimens. The public park is open everyday with free admission and also conducts educational programs.
