The origins of the California State Railroad Museum can be traced back in 1937 when the San Francisco Bay Area formed the Pacific Coast Chapter of the Railway & Locomotive Historical Society. The first facility of the museum opened in 1976 which is the Central Pacific Railroad Passenger Station. It features 21 restored railroad cars and locomotives coming from 1862.
