The Contemporary Jewish Museum was established in 1984 as the Jewish Community Museum which was originally located in the financial district of San Francisco. It moved to the Yerba Buena Gardens district after ten years of existence of which the building was designed by architect Daniel Libeskind. The museum was started to be built into the new location in 2006.
