About Mission Houses

The Mission Houses Museum was founded by the Hawaiian Mission Children’s Society in 1920. The foundation date of the museum coincides with the centennial anniversary of the Christian missionaries first arrival in Hawaii. The museum was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1962 and recorded in the National Register of Historic Places in 1966. The museum is dedicated to the missionary period of Hawaii which is from 1820 to 1863.
