About Philadelphia Zoo

The Philadelphia Zoo was the first zoo in the USA. It initially opened on July 1, 1874 with only 1,000 animals. Now, the zoo operates on a 42 acre area with over 1,300 animals, most of which are endangered and rare. The Philadelphia Zoo is one of the leading zoos in the world to have a collection of animals that are hard to breed in captivity. The zoo also features interactive exhibits, carousel, paddleboat lake, balloon ride and children’s zoo.

I have been to a lot of zoos in my life, but this one is my favorite! They have a wide variety of animals and the landscaping is beautiful. I cant wait to go back!
