About Travellers Rest

The Travellers Rest is a historic plantation which was first built in 1799 with a 2 story structure and 4 rooms. It was built by Judge John Overton. The property was originally named as Golgotha because there were many prehistoric skulls that was found in digging the cellar of the house. The plantation building has turned into a museum house that showcases the history of the Overton Plantation and Civil war in Nashville and the life and work of John Overton.
