The Diamond Head Crater is known to the local Hawaiians as the Le’ahi. It is a volcanic tuff cone considered to be nearly 150,000 years old. The Diamond Head Crater is a United States State Monument. Hiking the crater takes about one and a half hours to two hours with a distance of three fourths of a mile from the base up to its rim. It represents the global recognition of the Hawaiian islands.
