Located in an area that was considered wide open hunting grounds until the middle of 19th century, Asheville experienced a boom in during the early 20th century. The city is home to one of the Unites States’ most diverse and impressive displays of Art Deco architecture, with the Biltmore Village showcasing unique architectural styles that can’t be found anywhere else. Asheville is home to numerous outdoor music festivals and street music, and hosts a variety of big acts annually. For visitors who love water sports, Asheville is a major destination for whitewater activities, especially kayaking. The Asheville Cultural Project is responsible for bringing a number of performing arts and cultural venues to the city for visitors to enjoy.
