Fort Myers

What began as a fort in on the southwestern coast of Florida is today a thriving resort community and is the spring training site for the Boston Red Sox. Most of the city’s attractions are focused on the pristine beaches and ample opportunities for water sports, including diving, water-skiing, snorkeling and more. Historic Downtown, with its colorful early 20th-century buildings, serves as the primary entertainment district. Thomas Edison and Henry Ford both built summer homes in Fort Myers, and both homes are open for public viewing year-round. Fort Myers is also home to the Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium, and environmental education center with nature trails, planetarium, aviaries, and a museum.
