Santa Cruz

Another in a long string of Spanish mission colonies in California, Santa Cruz is located on the northern edge of Monterey Bay. The city moved away from industries involving natural resources and established itself as a resort city just before the turn of the 20th century. Santa Cruz is one of California’s most diverse communities, featuring a variety of cultural festivals and museums. Along with its arts and entertainment offerings, Santa Cruz is also known as one of the best surf locations in the world, drawing enthusiasts from all over the globe for both recreation and competition. Alternative sports like disc golf and skateboarding are also popular pastimes, with several public parks dedicated to each. For family fun, The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is an oceanfront amusement park featuring a 1911 carousel and the authentic 1924 Giant Dipper roller coaster.
